A few folks have asked me for my Top 10 record picks of 2014. Although, this is by no means a comprehensive list - I don't have time to hear - the following are a few studio albums that have made a strong impression on me. That's not to say these are the only good albums released this year (they aren't), but these are the ones I might pick for a top 10 if I were to do one (there's more than 10 here).

In other words, if you haven't heard any of these yet, and you find you agree with me on some things, you may want to put these on the old Christmas list!

Necromonkey - Necroplex (2013)

In a musical landscape dominated by artists who seek to recapture the essence of 1970’s groups, Necroplex is a modern and fresh offering from Mattias Olsson (ex-Änglagård) and keyboardist David Lundberg (Gösta Berlings Saga, ex-Änglagård), that combines elements of space-rock, Krautrock, Zeuhl, electronic music, and a few uncharted genres as well!

On Saturday, November 8th, I took a pilgramage to the Orion Sound Studios in Baltimore, Maryland, a venue that has hosted countless progressive rock acts over the past 20 years. The venue, a recording studio, a rehearsal space, and a venue wrapped into one, hosted four live bands to celebrate its 20th anniversary, including The Knells, Frogg Cafe, Alec K. Redfearn and the Eyesores, and Discipline.
